Why is it Comcast's fault?? I have no problem with comcast. Certainly you can go to their webmail and send/receive. I don't use webmail on my account, I have a dedicated mail program w/ comcast.

Review what you are doing, start from scratch, setting up internet access and mail is very easy. Just cool off, delete all you've done and start over. Do you have an assigned password or did you pick your own? sometimes people get this messed up on new accounts, you will need the assigned one to make your account then change it to your own password immediately..
