Why don't you try soap instead?

You grease up your finger (in the direction that the ring needs to come off) and wrap a string around your finger to pull the ring in the direction of the grease. The low center of gravity of the string will slide the ring just enough towards the grease so that the ring will then slide off the finger.

It depends on the size of the ring and finger dosen't it?
