eMule Introduction

eMule is a free software and it is a very convenient tool for downloading especially large files. If the downloading process is interrupted, it can resume itself. It can also download the same file from different sources and speed up the process as well.

While downloading a file, you are sharing the file with others at the same time, so you are also helping to spread the dharma and benefit others. Another characteristic of eMule is that the more people are downloading the file, the faster the speed becomes. We encourage you to try eMule to do the downloading.

eMule Instructions

After eMule software has been installed in the computer, you must close the browser such as Internet Explorer or Firefox and re-open it. After you re-open the browser, under Online Audio download page, just click the eMule download link for any file you would like to download. eMule software will download the file automatically.

Any downloaded files will be shared with others as long as they remain in the "Incoming" folder. If files have been moved to another location, please kindly make the specific folder "shared" (More detail is provided underneath). In this case you are helping the spread of dharma and getting more people to know the merit and goodness of Buddhism. When your internet connection and eMule software are kept in connected status, then others can share the files you have downloaded already.

To download via eMule is different from the traditional way. Upon requesting several files, eMule will complete all downloads after a while. Currently there are eight to ten computers online to provided long-term seed around the clock (24/7). If you cannot download any file, please check the connection status of eD2k and Kad at the lower right corner of the eMule software. Usually it is because of the connection failure of these two big eMule networks. Once the eD2k or Kad is connected, then the download will become much smoother.

(a word of personal experience: at the beginning, eMule download are quite slow, so please be patient. Afterwards, it is pretty fast depending on your internet connection speed and stability.)

If Kad shows "Disconnected", please click “Kad” button at the upper left corner and enter "taperoom.drbachinese.org" and "4662" (without the quote) in the "IP or Address" and the "Port" boxes respectively at the upper right corner. Then click "Bootstrap". Kad will be connected after a few minutes by changing its status to either "Open" or "Firewalled". (More detail is provided underneath)

If eD2K shows "Disconnected", please click the "Server" button at the upper left corner. Then click the "connect" button at the right hand side. eD2K will be connected after a few minutes by changing its status to "Connected". (More detail is provided underneath)

eMule Connection

1) Connection Status
After launching eMule, please check the network connection status. You can get the relevant information "My Info" from bottom right corner as shown in the picture.

i) If the status of both eD2K and Kad networks is "Connected" or "Open" or "Firewalled", then eMule is connected.
ii) If the status is "Disconnected", then you need to manually make the connection.



2) Connection Settings
Before you start the connection, please view the connection setting by clicking the "Options" button and select "Connection". Check the boxes of: (as shown in the picture)
i)"Autoconnect on startup"
ii) "Reconnect on loss"
iii) "Kad"
iv) "eD2K"
then click "OK" or "Confirm" button.



3) Making the connection
Just click either button will be fine (as shown in the picture). After a few minutes, the connection status of both networks will be changed to "Connected" or "Open" or "Firewalled".



4) Kad Network
If Kad Network still cannot be connected, go to Kad Network page by click "Kad" button. Enter "taperoom.drbachinese.org" and "4662" (without the quote) in the "IP or Address" and the "Port" fields respectively at the upper right corner. Then click "Bootstrap" as shown in the picture. Kad will be connected after few minutes by changing its status to either "Open" or "Firewalled".



5) eMule File Sharing
By default, eMule will share all the files in the "Incoming" and "Temp" folders/directories, and treat them as seed for others to download.

Once you have moved the files to another location and want to share them as well, you need to make them as "shared"; otherwise, eMule will not treat them as seed files for others to download.

Method:
Click the "Options" button on top right corner and select "Directories". In the "Shared directories" section, please check the box of respective directory/folder for sharing, and then click "OK" or "Confirm". If the directory/folder has sub-directories/sub-folders inside, you can:
i) press down "Ctrl" key and check the box (in this case all sub-directories/sub-folders inside that directory/folder will be shared). OR
ii) only check relevant directory/folder one by one you want to share.
Then click "OK" or "Confirm" button to save the settings.
