    The origin of the phrase came from the 1810 poem "The Liar" by William Blake. 


    The expression is supposed to be uttered loudly to another person.  Here's the complete phrase:


    Liar Liar Pants on Fire.  Hangin' on a Telephone Wire!,    or


    Liar Liar Pants on Fire! Put Your Ass on a Telephone Wire! (Liberal)
