It doesn't take long for someone with a pick to pick a lock such as what you are talking about...hopefully he won't charge an arm and a leg. If you don't mind the risk of a slight damage to the cabinet, they often build them loose enough to slip a thin flat pry bar in and you can force them open. You or someone else has to pull on the draw at the same time. It's only a small steel tab sticking into a slot, and you can often force enough clearance to for it to come out and be able to slide by. Every now and then I have to do something of this nature down to my wife's office. If you need to replace the lock for lack of a key, many True Value hardware stores carry replacement cabinet locks also.
