Sounds like your antennae needs to be tuned in.
You might find the procedure in your handbook.
There is a tuning screw on the back of the radio.You select a station around the middle of the dial & turn the screw until you have the strongest signal.These are generic instructions & may not apply to your radio.

VW's aren't know for their wonderful electrical systems.

You need a booster a mw for your car's antenna. You can get one at an auto parts store.
