        Maybe this is a bad neighborhood? Lol, who knows but yeah, that's cheap.

        I paid $800.00 a month to rent a room, in San Diego three years ago, I'm sure that rent has gone down some.

        notice, $800/m for a rm., 3 yrs ago. now imagine today what a 1 bdrm apt would be. Besides, the person is interested in buying vs renting...

        Yes, CA is usually one of the most expensive areas in the country for cost of living, along with N.Y. Sometimes buying is cheaper than renting because it's more difficult to qualify for loans etc. Not to mention you are paying the landlords house payment plus what ever profit they add to that to cover maintenance etc. .
