So there are two questions here. Here are my 2 answers:
Since your iMac is from 2006 I'm going to assume it doesn't have the Intel chip now used in all mac computers. The OSX 10.5 is called Leopard and is the last operating system to support the Power PC chip. So the answer is Yes, you can use that OSX on your iMac.
