If a little girl can't read a little or write her name by the time she's four, is there reason to believe she's dyslexic?

or perhaps has some other learning disability. Her sister just graduated K and reads at a 4th grade level.
I like to get my answers here. : )

In a word-NO.She will learn at her own pace as her interest grows.
I was diognosed with deslexia when I was around 8 though my Mother said I was very slow in speaking "try stoping me now" and when I went to school this was new word it was normaly assoaited with children who were just backwords I still have trouble with words and spelling and tend to read and miss sentances and have to re:read anyway it was a battle my grades were poor when I left school but in later years I went back and back to college and even Universty as you notice I still cant spell great but I am on a learning curb for ever and so is every one else dont worry she will be fine and good luck and have patients x
There are great systems available out there designed to help children learn at younger ages, hooked on phonics, baby can read. I believe one of the most, if not the most important things you can give your child is an education. To invest money into a learning system to help your child get ahead of the crowd would be a worthy investment, you may never spend a more productive dollar(or dollars), in your life???

    Thank you mel!
Some kids have 0 interest in reading or writing. Try making it fun, a game or a challenge and see if she shows interests as long as it's a game. That should let you know what her interest level is. Have her write out her ABC's and see how many letters are backwards.

    what a briliant idea
I have a lot of training and experience with preschool kids. In my classes i learned that children learn by play and also that young children did not need pencils or drill.
My relatives have not had the same training. they think my grandaughter needs drill. they think she's not bright.
colleen: yes, she's active and curious. she's funny and loud and fun to be with.
tommyh: yes, she will learn at her own pace.
If there's a problem we'll learn in time.
It's strange that I had to come to my computer friends to learn (what I already knew)
arryoudini: what are alphabet potatoes. I live in california and have never seen them.
thanks colleen. I'll give that a try. Her mom is a teacher but I don't think she's tried that.
