Lucky you PL, I would love to tour all the battle sites in England.
6Dogs, it is fantastic the Abbey of St Martins was built by William who it is said vowed to build a Abbey.When defeated King Harold he built the Abbey. It was built between 1070 and 1094 stands to this day was where you can look over the plain below that was the battlefield for William the conqueor against the Saxon. The town of Battle grew up around the Abbey.
I also went to Culoddian( I think spelling is close)where the Scots reach on their way to London. This is the Braveheart movie country.
Every corner you turn in the British Isles is steeped in history. I have a daughter in London and we hire a car and go right around England, Ireland (North and south) Wales and Scotland travelling on minor roads to see the "real" country.
Third trip coming up in October, fly out via Korea on the 2nd back 3rd November
