Stress less about this. I know it's new to you but talk to your doctor so he/she can take some of your fears away. Millions of people live healthy active lives while having diabetes. Just follow the doctors instructions and above all, exercise, eat healthy and take your meds as directed!

You need to know which type diabetes you have. Then click the link to read about it http://www.healthcentral.com/diabetes/understanding-diabetes.html
i watch carbs (not too many) i exercise as much as possible ... my mom and her sister had diabetes. so did my maternal grandma. i worry about it but so far so good.
Some people are diabetic from birth (type 1)
Some become diabetic through high sugar diet when the pancreas gives up under the strain ( type2). Some become diabetic simply by gettng older (type 2).
I am in the last category, but with medication, diet and exercise I live normally. As Colleen says speak to your doc.
