A lot would depend on the fortitude of the individual being discriminated against. On some people it would make them feel lesser than everyone else, while on others it would instill within them the want or need to counter discrimination. I agree that it can be devestating for a child to have to undergo this treatment, but for a child who is brought up with a strong sense of fairness and the knowledge of what is truly right from wrong along with some personal resilience...a person who has a lot of compassion, a strong sense of fairness and understanding for others can evolve from this. In some instances, a lot of times they are the person who stands up and says what needs to be said, while unfortunately many others will stay in the comfort zone of being silent. Simply put, this is the voice of experience talking.

The effects of discrimination can be devastating especially if it is a child.

In the fifth grade I had a Jewish teacher slap me across the face several times in front of the class and called me a NAZI. She knew I was of German descent. Her husband was very ill at the time from atrocities he suffered will in a concentration camp in Germany during the war. There were many Jewish kids in my school, most stopped interacting with me. Why? Parents. All this information became clearer as the years went by. I harbor no ill will towards anyone Jewish because of an old ladies anguish who's husband was dying because of terrible things he endured at the hands of Germans. Discrimination SUCKS. She was fired.
