    Does infant baptism equate to salvation?

    Never. Jesus was 30 when He was baptised. If we were to baptise as an infant then Jesus would have set the example

    Always seemed strange to me that the Son of God needed to be baptised.

    When on Earth He was human. He prob when to the toilet, eat,slept,prayed and yes was baptised.

    Infant baptism is the way the parents dedicate a child to be raised in the church.
    Still born or babies who died before being baptised are officially in Purgatory according to the rules of the Catholic Church. Doesn't seem very Christian to me.
