You don't have to have it to take your boat out but if there is any damage done to the boat or it sinks, you will loose everything. Some marinas require you have insurance to be able to Moore your boat with them. Also if anyone gets injured by or on your boat and you have no insurance you could have an issue as well. I have a boat that is trailered, being an older boat I have not bothered. I live on Vancouver Island so I am assuming that the laws for this are the same throughout the province.
