When Dogs stop eating when they are 8-10 yrs. old, there is usually a medical problem. However your dog was 17 yrs. old; he knew it was his time to leave. They are more intuitve than us humans. It doesnt make it less painful for you though. Its always hard to loose your best friend. So sorry!

Animals seem to know when their time is near, also they can sense when humans are seriously ill or our time is near. Some animals run away to die, I think because they don't want us to grieve over them so much. How caring is that?

Sorry you lost your companion, I'm sure in time it will become easier to deal with and someday ,God willing you will see your buddy in heaven. Ninnet and Jenn have both posted some good answers and points, I hope this comforts you through your grieving....

All animals even humans loss their appitite when thier time is near. It is very normal. You did not do anything wrong. It was her time. You are a wonderful owner to be concerned. I know she was very loved.

THANK'S EVERYBODY WHO COMMENTED ABOUT MY DOG LADY I FEEL A LITTLE BETTER .WHEN YOU HAD HER THAT LONG I JUST DON'T HOW TO LIVE WITH OUT HER BECAUSE I CARE FOR HER WHEN SHE BECAME LIKE SENIOR DOG. ALL LADY HAD TO DO IS LOOK AT ME AND I WOULD NO WHAT SHE WANTED.I NEEDED HER AS MUCH AS SHE NEEDED ME . I HAVE HAD A DOG ALL OF MY 56YR THEY ALL LIVED LONG LIVES LOVE WILL KEEP DOG LONG.THE DAY SHE PAST ON HER ON I WAS TAKING HER IN TO BE PUT DOWN .I PRAYED FOR GOD TO TAKE BECAUSE I DID NOT WANT HER IN PAIN,AND HE ANSWER MY PRAYER WITH LOVE FOR LADY. IN TIME I HAVE GOOD PICTURES AND VIDEO HER. THE NEXT DAY AFTER SHE PAST A LADYBUG WALL ON MY CELLING I USED CALL HER THAT, I BELIVE IT WAS HER WAY OF LETTING ME NO SHE WAS OK IN HEAVEN.
