I got an emails from a trusted friend recommending a company/product and this email contained a link a that led to an infomercial. I signed up for the product based on my trusted friends recommendation, and later found out the he never sent that email message to me. He claims his email account must have been hacked into by a representative of this company. Who or what authority do I report this to?

Complaining will likely do very little. In any case with the lack of info you share here there is zero way to say.
I have the same thing happening to me and was wondering what to do about it.
I went through the same thing. My ex opened my mail up being nosey and the company stole my entire contact list and started sending constant crap out to all of them. I was getting irritated e-mails from everyone asking me to stop sending the garbage. I had no idea what to do so I erased my entire contact list after e-mailing everyone to let them know what was going on and not to open any spam coming from me. I waited about a month then I started my contact list with 3 fake addresses like aaaaaaa@hotmail, bbbbb@hotmail, ect then began to add my contacts again. I have had no further problems but don't open anything with the spam from a friend.
