Lice hate heat. When my children had lice, I aimed the hairdryer at their heads. It killed the lice. I also found that heat loosens the nits or eggs and they are easy to brush off the hair.

Go to the drug store and get a product called RID. There are many others on the market now too. Follow the instructions very carefully and make sure to comb all of the nits out. Look under her hair by the neck and ear lines too. Check others in your household. Wash the bed linens and spray sofa and chairs and car seats with RID spray or something similar. Be thorough.

The OTC products don't work real well, ask her doctor for a prescription for lice for a better product. But, follow Yvonne57 other advice.

I work in an Elementary school... You can not send a child back to school without a reciept for RID and an inspection by the nurse... It works in most cases.
Back when I was in the third grade one of the kids dad used kerosene. He smelled for a few days but it worked.. Please realize this was in the 1960's, Probably not recommended nowa days
