    We have in Australia a product called "Yuck Off"
    Kerosine (parafin) will move it also.
    Could be any number of tree species but Gary is on the money it is sap.
    I believe the tree in question is the maple

    Careful when cleaning
    get some polish cleaner. don't try washing it off, it won't come off. It's tree sap and sticky
    In the UK the Sycamore leaves lots of tree sap on cars if they are constantly parked underneath.
