    There can be many things that cause this.

    I. Not enough Ram. - Install more.

    2. Too many applications open at one time. - Push option command (the Apple Key) esc Then close all applications you're not using.

    3. You need to Verify Disk Permissions. Do this 2-3 times it will help anytime.

    P.S.- To Verify Disk Permissions go to Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility click on your hard drive and Repair Permissions. This may take several minutes to complete, you can stop and restart without harm.
