To me it means going out of your way to help someone else. ((Especially when it's an inconvenience for you,)) the more difficult it is for you to help the greater the help you are giving (it seems.)

So the bigger the sacrifice you give, the more rewarding it seems to be...

To see a person in need and to help them even if it would be easier to turn and walk the other way.I have met a few in my life. They helped me at time when the people I expected to help walked away.
