A mixed number consists of a whole number and a fraction.
    For example, Two and a half ( 2 1/2 ).
Basically, there are two ways of adding mixed numbers.

    Method 1
    --------
Add the two whole numbers first and then add the two fractions.
For example, two and a half plus three and a quarter.
    2 1/2 + 3 1/4 = 5 3/4
The answer is 5 3/4 (five and three quarters).

    Method 2
    --------
First change the two mixed numbers to improper fractions, then add the two improper fractions, and then convert the answer from improper fraction to mixed number.
For example, two and a half plus three and a quarter.
    2 1/2 in improper fraction is 5/2
    3 1/4 in improper fraction is 13/4
Then change 5/2 to 10/4 to have a common denominater.
5/2 and 10/4 have the same value (equivalent fractions).
    2 1/2 + 3 1/4 = 5/2 + 13/4 = 10/4 + 13/4 = 23/4
Change the answer 23/4 to mixed number which is 5 3/4
The answer is 5 3/4 (five and three quarters).
