On the morning of November 17, 1965, Alpha Company, 2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry, received orders to spearhead the battalion out of LZ (Landing Zone) X-Ray, where we’d been fighting for two days, to a previously-unreconnoitered clearing in the jungle designated “LZ Albany,” 5 kilometers to our north. B-52’s were going to carpet-bomb the Chu Pong Massif, which loomed over X-Ray, so we had to move quickly.

Yes, I know this as I am writing a short story that covers the movements of the 2nd Battalion beginning on the 16th out of LZ X-Ray. If you were there, did you know 1LT Don Cornett, XO of Charlie Company? I knew him in ROTC at McNeese State in Lake Charles, LA. What can you tell me about him that was not in the book, "We Were Soldiers Once...And Young?" If you can, will you give me more details about Don's death, or personal info about the way he was regarded in his unit, etc...? If you will, please reply to me at: rlyoung1957@yahoo.com. Thank you.

Yes, you are correct. Your reply totally surprised me as I did not expect an answer concerning the Ia Drang Valley Battle....but I am now writing an article short story about it. I was expected an answer related to any major news events in the USA or elsewhere in the world that I might possibly use in contrast to what was happening in LZ Albany and the day Don died (Nov. 17, 1965).
