    Plant ocotillo in the early spring or fall; fall is recommended as the cooler temperatures typically cause less stress on new plants.
    * 2

    Choose loamy soil that is well draining. If planting indoors, any soil blend used for cactus will do.
    * 3

    Plant your ocotillo outside where it will receive lots of sunshine. If you are growing the plant indoors, put the plant in moderate sun until it is well established, then provide full sun.
    * 4

    Water lightly once or twice a month by misting the stems on plants rooted outdoors. Indoor plants may require more frequent misting depending on their location and home humidity.
    * 5

    Avoid over-watering. The roots of the ocotillo plant tend to rot quickly in wet soils.
    * 6

    Remove ocotillo plant from its container and examine the plant's roots carefully when transplanting. If damaged roots are present, cut away damaged portions and apply sulfur to cut ends prior to transplanting.
