Judging by the way you worded your question school would be a very good idea.

I admire you for the work you do and I understand it must be frustrating to be told you can no longer do something in which you have 14 years experience without taking an exam.

If there is a way round it, take it and go on working... but do consider an evening class in English. Something like this could stop you doing what you want just for the sake of a few hours study a week.

I think you can challenge the exam in most states if not all of them; what state are you in?
