    You measure right into the corners. With a tape measure there is always a little guessing, as your tape is bent at the corners. But, if you cut it a shade long, you can always trim it to where it fits perfectly. On corner that comes out into the room, always strive to have your joint meet perfectly at the corner.
    Just remember that, if your walls are not at a perfect 90 degree angle coming into the corner, you are going to have to accomodate (trim) to make both pieces fit perfectly. A framing square and an adjustable square are invaluable in determining how square the corners you are dealing with are.
    Patience and taking your time are key to making perfect joints. A good cut-off saw also helps, of which you can take a speed square and flat of the blade to make sure you are cutting a true 45 degree angle. Just remember that the teeth are staggered slightly, so make sure you rest the square against the flat of the blade.
    If some joints are not exactly what you hoped for, True Value Hardware Stores carry colored wood putties. If you go that route, push it into the joint, and make sure you remove any excess from the surface.
    If by chance the molding is eventually going to be painted, painting it ahead of time gives you crisp clean lines. Don't be bashful about lightly sanding anywhere you have used wood putty, and touching it up where you want to hide nail holes. Hope this helps.
    THIS is question of precision.

    Many corner are not 90 degrees

    Mark 1 foot from corner going both direction.

    since ++++you measured 1 foot

    the inside of 45 degree is where you measured

    so cut to 1 foot mitered cuts{ need meter box or very acsurate
    saw table

    if these do not meet at the corner, tightly
    you are not dealing with 90 degree angle
    then cut a 3by 5 file card to fit the corner
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
    cut one side ++++then use the card or a angle carpenter tool
    to use as template++++++lastly take class a "loews" " home depot"
