      Neptune was the brother of Pluto and Jupiter in Roman mythology and the world was dived into three, each brother having a part. jupitor got the water, sea,lakes,rivers etc. Greek poseidin was similar entity but only of the sea.

        The Planet Neptune derives its name from the ancient Roman god of the sea. There isn't much more to it, the other plantes which were discovered before Neptune were also named after ancient gods and so it was decided that Neptune will be the new planets name(although other names not connected to ancient gods were offered).
