Nixon impeachment proceedings did not necessarily require dismissal of the impeachment charges.

I must take issue with some of the answers. Impeachment is the process where an elected official is accused of unlawful activities. It is not the end result of the proceedings.
Andrew Johnson did not avoid impeachment, he merely avoided being found guilty of the charges.
Richard Nixon did avoid impeachment, which was how the question was worded.

Richard Nixon was not the subject of the question :-)
