This was the base camp for C/589 from August 1968 to 1971. The 589th Engineer Battalion, US Army Corps of Engineers reconstructed and greatly improved the old road (formerly QL 11, now highway 27) from Phan Rang to the top of Song Pha Pass. The reconstruction of the road up Song Pha Pass was considered by the US Army to be one of its greatest engineering accomplishments during its involvement in Vietnam. Numerous mortar attacks were made against this base camp from the surrounding hills and C/589 suffered casualties at this location. The waterlines, building, and drainage channel on the site were constructed after the departure of C/589.
