I am my grandmothers payee for her social security. Each month I pay her nursing home bill and it leaves about 70.00 left which I use for her personal items. I just received a letter that social security thinks its in my grandmothers best interest to assign another payee. What does this mean and imply

Sounds like they want the $70.00 and they will provide for personal items which they can get cheaper and pocket the rest. This is not uncommon. However if payments are made late this screws up there bookkeeping and that is an additional expense to them. Do the math 70x200 residents per month x 12. Big bucks.
