            For any religion< I suppose it is the connection to a higher power/value that enables us to maintain or improve our daily moral decisions (or even ammoral ones). In a recent 12-step program, in seeking spirituality from a "higher power", an atheist chose to see her future healthy, un-addicted self as her higher power to strive for and emulate.
