Easy, check to see if that house is 'in foreclosure' first. If it is not, then it is "not in foreclosure."

But I am wondering if you really were asking about a house actually in the process of being foreclosed. In that case, go to your county records website and check for leans against the property. While you are there, you can see who actually owns the house - it may not be who you are renting from. You can look at the property taxes, the history of the house, etc etc. From there you can check to see sometimes see who the lender is and in some cases how the property taxes are paid. Once you find out that information, contact the lender directly and ask. Or you can check with a licensed realtor and ask about the property. But I'd start with the things they would check - county records. Then go from there.
