Go to the website which hosts your email address (i.e. if you have aol, go to aol.com), sign in with your address and password, and click on "check email," or something like that. Unless I am missing something, it is that easy.
Or, use an email program to do it for you - like Microsoft Outlook - or many others, depending on your operating system and preferences. This will do it for you rather than having to use your browser.
