    my cat old and over wt. itches all the time i even give him baths with itch shampoo for dogs its all i could find tryed all kinds of diff. food also help my rusty

    Cats scratch for a variety of reasons, one is of course dry skin. Do not use dog shampoo on a cat and do not wash your cat. His skin will dry out even more and so will his hair. Cats wash themselves much more effectively themselves.

    Another reason they scratch is fleas - make sure your cat doesn't have fleas. If he does there are plenty of flea powders, liquids for between the shoulders and collars on the market.

    The third reason cats scratch is because they have an itch that needs scratching - just like people.
