    Does collecting unemployment at 62 affect the calculation for my soc benefit when I retire at 65?

    Is the unemployment due to being laid off? Or is it medical leave? Medical leave is not taxable but unemployment pay is taxable. Only SS would be reduced if you are eligible to receive it and file for it at 62. Remember, SS is figured on a basis of how much you made over a period of time.
