    WHY CALL PREACHERS REVEREND?

Why do good preachers often allow other’s to call them Reverend? Webster defines reverend as, “Worthy of reverence worship, or awe.” The Hebrew word is defined, “to revere.” To me it sounds as though the preacher enjoys being worshiped. “Before his downfall a man's heart is proud, but humility comes before honor." Prov 18:12 NIV

mordern day being today,i beleive what the dertermains the differance between a preacher and a reverend is the "nomination" of their church ex; baptist-preachers-prostant -reverand: :cathloic - father, :rabi - teacher. but only god the father, son and holy spirit should be revered
In the early 15century., "worthy of respect," from M.French. reverend, from L. reverendus "(he who is) to be respected,"

As a form of address for clergymen, it is attested from late 15c.; earlier reverent (late 14c. in this sense). Abbreviation Rev. is attested from 1721, earlier Revd. (1690s). Very Reverend is used of deans, Right Reverend of bishops, Most Reverend of archbishops.

Thanks for such a quick informative answer. I really meant why would a good preacher allow people to give him such a high place, only God is called reverend, in the KJV.
They shouldn't be called Reverends, since only God is reverend.

    I agree with you. Thanks
Thanks Daren, I agree. As a joke, I've heard that REV stood for Rest in bed, Eat chicken and Visit the widows. I don’t like that connotation at all but there might be some truth to it, I hope not.
