Leviticus 18:1-19 is explained in GOD'S WORD ® Translation

1The LORD spoke to Moses, 2"Tell the Israelites: I am the LORD your God. 3You used to live in Egypt. Don't live the way the Egyptians do. I am bringing you to Canaan. Don't live the way the Canaanites do. Never live by their standards. 4Follow my rules, and live by my standards. I am the LORD your God. 5Live by my standards, and obey my rules. You will have life through them. I am the LORD.
6"Never have sexual intercourse with anyone related to you by blood. I am the LORD. 7"Never have sexual intercourse with your mother. She is your own mother. Never have sexual intercourse with her. 8Never have sexual intercourse with your stepmother. She is related to you through your father. 9Never have sexual intercourse with your stepsister, whether she is your father's daughter or your mother's daughter. It makes no difference whether or not she was born in your house. 10Never have sexual intercourse with your granddaughter, whether she is your son's daughter or your daughter's daughter, because she is related to you. 11Never have sexual intercourse with a daughter of your father and his wife. She is your own sister. 12Never have sexual intercourse with your father's sister. She is your paternal aunt. 13Never have sexual intercourse with your mother's sister. She is your maternal aunt. 14Never have sexual intercourse with the wife of your father's brother. She, too, is your aunt. 15Never have sexual intercourse with your daughter-in-law. She is your son's wife. Never have sexual intercourse with her. 16Never have sexual intercourse with your sister-in-law. She is your brother's wife. 17Never have sexual intercourse with a woman and her daughter or a woman and her granddaughter. They are related. Doing this is perverted. 18While your wife is living, never marry her sister as a rival wife and have sexual intercourse with her.

19"Never have sexual intercourse with a woman while she is unclean during her monthly period.

God really said things like sexual intercourse? It just sounds, so modern. That's like the inclusion of a word like, Homosexual in the bible. The word itself didn't exist until the 1860's. Well anyway, I agree, no having sex with immediate family!

And some argue that the bible has not been rewritten and words added to it. I still say, the bible has been written to fit the agendas of men with prejudices. But that's just my opinion. ;)

You are correct. This was a contemporary translation. There are many "translations" where the bible has been rewritten, and unfortunately, yes there was a translational agenda attached to some of them. But, even atheists have an agenda when they publish their works, so it behooves a person to learn the premise of understanding from which the book was published, and not necessarily blindly accept another person's ability to correctly state the original intention.

Thank you for being one of the few that I've encountered that have been honest in admitting the bible is not a word for word exact translation of original scripture. As for the Atheist agenda, I don't know what that is or could be. Whatever it is, it does not affect my life in a negative way as some religions do which must be why I do not know of it?

I didn't say all bibles. The interlinear bibles are a word for word translation. The problem is that a hebrew or greek word can mean many things, so it is necessary to consider the context, perspective, and audience. Another problem is most of the translators were taught from the same type of seminar teaching, so any other thought was often negated in the translation. My interpretative work considers the spiritual perspective from God's eyes through Hebrew and Greek studies, not just from a physical seminary teaching.
If people want to hear God say Don't have sex or sexual intercourse with relatives it is obvious he is saying that, can you have sex with your clothes on? Iampamela313 scriptures says it all, don't take your clothes off is all you need to know the rest is blatantly obvious.Good grief!
"Incest was orginally defined as sex between an adult and a child"

An adult and a child of the same immediate family? If so, does this mean that once the child became an adult, then it was permitted for the immediate family member to have sex with him/her?

Or did incest of those days mean pedophilia of our days?

That is a good question. An adult could be someone of authority over the child too, not just a family member. So incest could be, for example, a priest and a child. I counseled an adult woman who was an Associate Pastor in a church who was raised in incest with her dad, along with her sister. It continued into adulthood, and once an adult, the dad could not be charged. Disgusting but true.
it's forbidden by all cultures b/c it would pass on umdesireable genes double or triple the amount the baby would normally get
    Leviticus 18:9-11 (King James Version)

9 - The nakedness of thy sister, the daughter of thy father, or daughter of thy mother, whether she be born at home, or born abroad, even their nakedness thou shalt not uncover.

10 - The nakedness of thy son's daughter, or of thy daughter's daughter, even their nakedness thou shalt not uncover: for theirs is thine own nakedness.

11 - The nakedness of thy father's wife's daughter, begotten of thy father, she is thy sister, thou shalt not uncover her nakedness.

I learned something here, thank you. (scripture not depravity).

lmao...only you would think of that!
What about if you leave their clothes on? Your answer does not answer the question. It does not ,Thou shalt not lie with (in the biblical sense have xxx) any of the afore mentioned. Interpretation is a wonderful thing. "I didn`t uncover her she did it herself"

I agree. It does not say they can not sleep together or have sex together. They just says they can't undress each other.

Good thing man's laws came along to forbid it because evolution proved why incest is bad.
Leviticus 18 was most likely written sometime between 1450 bc and 1500 bc. Incest was orginally defined as sex between an adult and a child, and was always prohibited. After the Jews spent time in Canaan and Egypt, they picked up on some of the more deviant family lifestyles from the idol worshipers, and the term incest became more liberal. God needed to point out that it was not lawful to do the things the Caanaanites or Egyptians did.
God is defining in this chapter the unlawful marriages and lusts for the Jews. Therefore, He is stating that even causing another family member (and He defines the family members) to become naked in their sight is lustful, meaning desiring sex with them.
I believe the saying "do not covet thy neighbor's wife" is from the 10 commandments
