Galore, the only way I was able to do so is by cheating a little bit.  By this I mean using the stock symbol SHY which represents mostly short term treasuries.  Before you enter into your yahoo portfolio, figure out how much money you would like to be included in the portfolio, then divide the amount by the closing price of SHY of the previous day.  For example, you would like to include $80,000 in cash in your portfolio and SHY closed at $80 per share, enter 80,000 divided by 80 or 1000 shares of SHY.

Are you confused enough yet?  Good luck!
