A trick that I do to protect myself is that I have a junk bank account at another bank - just a baby checking; something that comes with an ATM/Visa card. I use that account to buy stuff (I just transfer $$ from my real account when needed).

If someone get's my junk account, I might loose a couple of hundred $$, but not much more.

I can say that after years of purchasing online, I've never had any problems.

But if you're not sure or don't feel right, call instead - there's no law that says you have to purchase online.
