    It helps to retain Moisture and in Formation of good Soil

    Humus is not just the chemistry for nutrients, however it is the ecosystem of the life in the soil.  This includes the microbes, and insects that make good soil excellent!  They break down organic matter and make it available as chemicals to nourish the plants and insects to insure a healthy soil.  You should at all costs, promote a healthy humus layer to your soil, all soil, no matter what the crop...

    it increases the amount of available carbon for plant growth in a readily accessible form. the same as slash and burn or firestick farming does.
