    What are the common reasons for failure in sewage treatment plants in industrial areas?

    In many industrial areas, sewage treatment plants (STPs) are installed to meet pollution control norms. However, despite proper installation, many plants start underperforming within a few years.


    Some common issues observed include inconsistent influent quality, poor sludge management, lack of operator training, and improper system design based on actual load conditions. In many cases, plants are designed based on ideal assumptions, but real conditions such as flow variation and chemical contamination are not considered.


    This leads to problems like:



    • COD and BOD fluctuations

    • Sludge bulking

    • Odor issues

    • Increased operating cost

    • Difficulty in meeting discharge standards
