Another detail connecting this link watch to its racing past is the green racing-style leather strap with a bright yellow lining. While I greatly appreciate the history and the functional aspects of the design, it usually lacks the refinement I love to see on a dial.The canary coloring is nicely matched by matte black accents, and legibility looks to be a walk in the park thanks to a yellow-on-black (or skeleton) dial design. I've long appreciated the look and feel of the 42mm Big Bang models, and the $26,200 Yellow link Magic adds some supercar flair into the mix with strong support from a matching yellow rubber band.The movie brings so much to the table in terms of how a watch gets on screen in the first place. There's a bit of product placement at work, sure, but if there's such a thing as "great product placement" that's what we're getting here. On top of that is a watch with both cinematic and horological provenance, in addition to a killer vintage Rolex obtained through sheer happenstance.Late last night (New York time), Grand Seiko launched one of its first releases of the year: the new SLGH027, a 40mm by 11.7mm Ever-Brilliant steel watch on a bracelet housing the brand's 9SA5 hi-beat 80-hour movement. That movement features the Grand Seiko Dual Impulse Escapement, which is only the second serially produced escapement that isn't a Swiss lever escapement (after the coaxial). But in quintessential Grand Seiko fashion, this watch is most captivating for its dial.
