How does the PT Pump control engine speed and power?

The PT Pump is the "brain" of the engine's fueling. It doesn't use a complex mechanical distributor like other systems. Instead, it has a simple but brilliant governor inside.

    • The governor uses centrifugal weights to sense engine speed.

    • As engine speed increases, the weights fly outward, which acts to reduce the fuel pressure flowing to the injectors.

    • As engine speed decreases, the weights move inward, increasing the fuel pressure.

This creates a natural balance, preventing the engine from overspeeding (by cutting fuel) and maintaining a steady idle (by adding fuel when needed). The throttle lever simply tells the governor what your desired speed or power level is, and it adjusts the fuel pressure accordingly.
