I found out the hard way on my old computer which was a Dell 2001 model that yes you can keep upgrading Internet Explorer but you can go past the point that your older computer will work on it. I had to call tech help on internet explorer the guy was so very nice he helped me to uninstall and told me never to go above Internet Explorer 7 on that old computer that I had. Since then about 2 years ago I finally was able to buy a new computer and bought an apple. But you can go above in Internet Explorer on what your computer can handle and that may have been what has happened to you.
