Seeing this pre-Carrera 2447S (and link the prior 2447N) on the table next to the first chronographs link with "Carrera" on the dial allows you to understand the DNA link that laid the groundwork for the Carrera. While they don't have the refinement of the first Carrera that'd come in 1963, the utilitarian, tool-watch ethos of Heuer's chronographs is already there.

Each of the recruited pilots Maverick's underlings wear link these special IWC watches both in chronograph and time and date configurations. And that's not all. In a pivotal scene toward the film's end link you'll see a prominently featured IWC stopwatch. To my knowledge link there isn't a modern stopwatch in the IWC catalog so it's possible this was made just for the film.
