The iPad is a wireless device, and it likes to do everything wireless. The 5740 is a USB printer.

You could get a USB to wireless (WiFi or bluetooth) print server, and that could allow you to print. Another possibility is to share the printer thru your Sony and make the Sony a hotspot for the iPad to connect to.

In any case, you'll have to download some software onto the iPad that will allow for WiFi printing (they run about $10).
