      Run a virus scan. A good one. Do a defrag. Check with your internet supplier and make sure you're getting proper signal strength.

          To add to Colleens` defrag suggestion run the defrag several times, each immediatly after the other. When the defrag only takes about 30 seconds to complete you have completely defragmented. If you are on ADSL you will find a on off switch on your modem. Turn the modem off for about 20 seconds and switch back on, this was told to me by Bigpond Customer Assistance.

            Most likely because you have over time added too many "crapware" programs.

            A reformatting of the disc (after doing a full backup) and reinstall of the operating system usually fixes the problem.
