I think this depends on the meaning of 'moderate'. Also age will play in the decision to replace unless the hip was beyond repair due to injury or disease. My boss has 'stickler's disease' he had his hip replaced when he was in his early 30's. About 12 years ago I had an MRI done on my knees, the doctor said then that I would be a candidate for replacement but not then because i was too young, this is based on longevity of the replacement lifetime, about 10~15 years. It is much more difficult replacing a replacement.
