Genetically modified salmon, would you eat it?

A company, Aquabounty, has obtained FDA approval to produce GM salmon. The fish are raised in tanks on land in Canada and Panama, they grow faster and eat less than wild salmon. Would you eat them?

"Farmed fish" are nothing new. They've been readily available in dozens of places all over Canada and United States (and probably elsewhere) for several years. Have they already been making "adjustments" in their "grow tanks". Who knows? Ugh!

These are not just farmed fish, they have had genes added from another fish which makes them grow faster and bigger.
Personally I would eat them provided they tasted OK.
In the future with a growing world population genetically modified animals or fish will be the only way to feed people who need protein.
Otherwise we will be eating insects

I'm fully aware that they are not just farmed fish. That's what I meant when I said "Have they already been making "adjustments" in their "grow tanks". I should have said "as well". (Sorry. Miscommunication.) There is more to what we eat than just good taste. Anyone selling food to consumers, will make it taste good...of course. That's why processed food is loaded with sugar, salt and fat. It's horrible for us but....it tastes good. It's also ready to eat in an instant. The question is, what is all this cr*p that we're eating, doing to our bodies? Causing obesity for one thing!

Adding a gene from one fish to another seems safe enough to me and also to the FDA , a very cautious organisation which did not approve the drug thalidomide in the USA unlike Europe where many deformed babies were born from mothers who were prescribed it. (These babies are now in their 50's).

Maybe the FDA has improved since this report in 2003. (Since pharmaceutical companies are competing in record numbers, to be first in the market place, I doubt it.) Apparently their record of "drug approval" is not what you would want to count on, when medicating your loved ones. I sincerely doubt that they are any more proficient at knowing what's best for us to eat!

Sure, we're safe in Canada. No big corporations here looking for bigger profits.

Fine, then. Enjoy your unprocessed canned tuna.

Depends on where you live. Almost zero levels in my area. Anyway, I don't plan to be pregnant any time soon. :)

Not knowingly. Humans messing with our food....again.....so corporations can make bigger profits. Hopefully, a pharmaceutical company is already working on a new prescription to counteract the 'new GM disease'.

Ohhh, don't be so cynical. Eat it. It's good for you...eh?

Oh all right. Let's stop at McDonald's too on our way to pick up the tasty fish for tomorrow's supper.

Sounds like relatively healthy alternative to me. Smart thinking, Ducky.

Thank you digger. I though you might appreciate my 'wisdom". Ahhh....Canadians in sync. :)

Yes, just because its labeled genetically modified does not make it bad. Every living thing plant - animal has been genetically modified through evolution. But if they cant make money, it wont be continued.
