If you see them often enough to care, just tell them to F-Off, if they care enough, they will.

I guess the best thing to do is ignore the person and if he/she doesn't "get it" after several months of non communication then you must be blunt as I've done in the past. ( Out of tu's so I'll catch you on the flip side). 

I  stop making contact and distance myself. I've not had to do that too often though. I usually become friends with others at a very slow pace.

Close and loyal with many similar interests is a very hard thing to find. I really like many of my acquaintances, but I wouldn't call them "close friends".

I Just ignore me,

Only did it once and she knows the reason. I just put her out of my mind and unfriended on FB. Real shame though, it was a great relationship. She just should have never called the cops.....
