Yes and no. Andrew Carnegie was a big contributor to the National Academy of Science, and who is also an atheist. He refused to donate any more money unless they quit teaching the bible version of creation in public schools. However, it is still legal to teach creationism in public schools, however, it is up to the parents to demand the school boards do so.
